Lancaster ED731/AS:T2 of No 166 Squadron

(Rus)  Dante's Daughter gets a '65th raid completed' symbol from ground crew member LAC E. Turner. This Kirmington-based Lancaster of No 166 Squadron, officially ED731/ AS:T2, started its operational service with No 103 Squadron in March 1943 and was passed to No 166 in September that year. It completed more than 70 sorties before being lost on 24/25 March 1944 in the last major RAF Bomber Command raid of the war on Berlin, when 72 'heavies' were lost. The 'Scoreboard' acknowledges a DFC awarded to the pilot. The ice-cream symbols are for raids on Italian targets. (IWM CE126)
