Halifax, L9621/ZA:P of No 10 Squadron at Leeming in January 1942

(Rus)  The Standard Fordson farm tractor, basically a First World War design, served as a tug for bomb 'dollies' and aircraft on many Bomber Command airfields. The RAF version was provided with better brakes than the farm tractor and ran on petrol rather than vaporising oil (kerosene). It needed full power and low gear to move 15 tons of Halifax. This one is shifting a mud-spattered No 10 Squadron Halifax, L9621/ZA:P, at Leeming in January 1942, an aircraft that was retired from operations only to be wrecked in a bad-weather landing accident at Croft in the following spring.
